These ornaments are hand made from Mexico and are ready to give your tree the vibrant or subtle pop you’re looking for. These Christmas ornaments are cut and stitched by hand by a cooperative of women from San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas. The felt is rolled out, patterns cut, and then hand-stitched their beautiful and intricate designs before being stuffed and stitched closed. We worked directly with the cooperative to design exclusively for MyCajita our Christmas Star, which is the first to feature metallic green thread to give it that extra sparkle.
MyCajita is proud to support Doña Ana Lopez Entzin and her cooperativo of women from the small pueblo of San Cristobal de las Casas, in the Chiapas highlands (7,200 ft above sea level). The town has a population of approx. 3,400 people and 99.5% of its inhabitants speak Tzotzil, a Mayan language of the Tzotzil Maya people who have lived in these highlands for centuries. The town is autonomous, allowing no outside police or military and police themselves. The primary source of income is the agriculture of corn, beans, and potatoes. While the women are keepers of their textile traditions and pass down their knowledge to the next generation.
